A safe work instruction focuses specifically on how to perform a task safely with detailed hazard controls and safety precautions for each step. A standard operating procedure (SOP) is broader, covering the entire process including quality standards, equipment settings, and general workflow. Safe work instructions often complement SOPs by adding safety-specific details.

Include clear instructions for common emergencies related to the task (injuries, chemical spills, fires), emergency contact information, locations of first aid kits and emergency equipment, evacuation routes, and shutdown procedures.
